6 Things We Can Do On Our Screens That Is Time Well Spent

This six ways of using your screen device are nice and positive ways of embracing technology into our lives.

Relaxation

We all need some time to unwind, and many apps can help us. You can do a guided meditation session, listen to classical music, color a book, and engage in a multitude of other activities.

The plan: Schedule yourself some time to relax. How about after lunch or at night before sleep (don't forget to configure your device to enable the blue light filter to reduce the risk of sleep problems)? Remember to avoid social networks and news feeds at all costs as they have strong potential to harm your relaxation session.

Exercise

It's essential to keep moving if you want to maintain a healthy body and mind. You can find apps to keep track of your workout to analyze later or to coach you through a workout session in real-time.

The plan: Take regular breaks to stretch when sitting for extended periods. Also, don't forget to make time for at least 30 min of exercise daily. If you think you'll have trouble sticking to that schedule, try concentrating your activity on three days of the week. You can go to a gym or a sports club or head outdoors if you're more like an outside person.

Weather

Bad weather can't only spoil your day in the park, but it can also place your life in danger.

The plan: Check with your local weather authority if there is any weather alert service you can sign up to get critical weather alerts. You can also ask your virtual assistant (Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant) to tell you how's the weather going to be when waking up in the morning before leaving home.

Reading (books)

Literature provides a much more in-depth insight into any subject than watching TV or videos on YouTube. Yes, not everyone loves e-books, but they are accessible and affordable enough not to be ignored.

The plan: Yes, you can read an e-book on your smartphone, but I would strongly recommend you get an e-reader because they're not expensive devices, and they provide much better user experience (your eyes will thank you), making them worth the money you'll pay for it.

Education

Nowadays, you can pretty much learn anything online. There are some excellent online courses and apps dedicated to a variety of subjects.

The plan: Why not learn something new and not related to your current job? Maybe a new hobby or something you could learn to help someone or volunteer for a cause. It will have a positive impact on your mental health and keep your brain active, which helps to prevent common aging brain conditions, such as dementia and Alzheimer's.

Health

Apps should never replace a visit to your doctor, but they can be helpful if used with their guidance. You can use an app to find and book an appointment with a specialist. You also can get useful advice on what you are eating and track your daily activity and sleep.

The plan: Get to know more about the food you find when visiting the grocery store. Use an app that makes it easy for you to get access to the pros and cons of the products you see when you go to the supermarket and to help you decide which one to buy. If you suspect you are not getting enough sleep at night, using a tracking device might help you figure out what is happening so you could act to fix it.
